Conditioning is what we are taught about the world around us.

When we are born, everything which is sensed by our senses is utterly new, which we try to figure out. All the other factors in the society, in the environment around us, teach us the way to interpret and perceive all these senses; through which, layer by layer, we get conditioned.

Though such conditioning is necessary, for survival and to make our living little easy, because, even if we are born in the forest or the jungle, then too, it will provide a conditioning for us to develop survival instincts, for gathering or hunting our food, to search or build a shelter, etc. it means that, the basic conditioning is a necessity, without which, we may not survive.

But, when the conditioning, unhindered, reaches and interferes with our way of thinking, it starts providing a fixed view about everything around us, including – our work, our quest, our curiosity, our relationships; then, this conditioning becomes an unnecessary burden; as it opens one door while closing all the others. This conditioning will not allow us to think freely.

The funny thing about this conditioning is that it limits our freedom, yet, provides a false sense of security. This, so-called, feeling of security sustains itself in our day-to-day life by creating incidents that provoke fear, anger and happiness temporarily, so that, we invariably refer to the conditioning for the false sense of security it provides.

As we grow, the faculties of our brain start opening and the memories of the conditionings from ones previous existences (Not the re-incarnations or rebirths), start coming to surface; fear of death, is one such conditioning. These memories add to the present perceptions and distort the reality.

Conditioning becomes the fog and the mist around us and we start seeing everything through this fog. So, nothing seems clear, everything seems hazy, and, our interpretations through this fog of, “what is” takes precedence over the actuality. And, this breeds all the pain, sorrow and suffering.

Now, the root cause of ones suffering has a big contribution from conditioning, and as some natural conditioning is required for survival and maintenance of social life, one needs to drop the conditioning that has penetrated ones way of thinking. For that, one needs to understand this conditioning objectively, and allow it to drop off.

This conditioning creates one’s own mental/psychological world filled with judgements, opinions and prejudices. And, one continuously suffers within that world, just because this fog has obstructed our vision for the actuality of our surroundings. And, to overcome these obstructions, one needs to bring back the wonder in our senses; rekindle our curiosity for what is and what is not.

To make our mind full of a child-like wonder, one needs to understand the fundamental philosophy and the intention behind our existence. Though these words seem big and difficult, but, when we attempt it, we realize that, it’s the most natural thing a child has felt; and we had been there.
